Allotment path work

I set of quite early for the allotment with a flask of coffee and a couple of the super sweet cake things I made yesterday.  I had got some (very green) plastic edging and wooden stakes to sort out some of the edges of the beds.

I forgot to take my half-moon cutter which would have made it easier to get the role to sit behind the old metal edging and had to use a spade.  It sort of worked okay but I will take the other tool next time I got and try to settle the plastic edging down a bit.

I used up my supplies and then turned to the mulch on the pathways.  We get this delivered by a local tree cutting company for free.  We use it and it saves them having to pay for it as waste.  It is often conifer clippings which are not so good for mulching plants but is fine for pathways.

I started trying to level the paths and realised that the previous mulch, which had been down for several years, had rotted down well and was quite nice soil.  I decided I should try and transfer the composted mulch onto the beds and then fill the paths back up with fresh mulch.  This should improve the lumpiness of the paths as well as giving me extra compost for my beds for free.  I made a start but it was quite hard work.  I will need to go back hopefully next week and carry on.

Back home, I did some housework and then we went to collect our Sunday lunch takeaway.  The food was lovely but far too much of it and I was a piggy, so I have been feeling rather stuffed for the rest of the day.
