On the Penguin Trail
The wind was icy again today but we did get some sunshine. As long as you were in the sun it wasn't too bad. It was around 17c.
In the afternoon I went hunting for some Penguins before meeting up with my friend and some of her family at the Canterbury Museum.
The Penguin Top Left and the Two Bottom Right is: Heart of Billows and he was outside the Canterbury Museum.
Heart of Billows was created by: Marshal Wang
Design Inspiration
‘Heart of Billows’ features a spiral pattern – this is inspired by the traditional Chinese pattern of billow – a symbol of positivity. The blue colour echoes the depths of the ocean, combined with traditional Māori fishhook and koru – representing prosperity and peace. Marshal is presenting this design as a reflection of New Zealand – a place of peaceful people who create prosperity that can positively change the world.
The Penguin Middle and Right Top is: Mischievous Penguin and he was at Evolution Square in the SALT District.
Mischievous Penguin was created by: Rebekah Connor
Design Inspiration
A great part of the new city centre buildings in Christchurch is the art that adorns them. The inspiration for this design comes from these artworks around us. The brightness of the new, recovering Christchurch, rebuilt stronger and brighter than before. ‘Mischievous Penguin’ has been visiting these artists and getting very hands on enjoying their art!.
Bottom Left is Ice and he as at the Ilex Centre in the Botanic Gardens.
Ilex was created by: Mel Eaton
Design Inspiration
Mel has recently been investigating the effects of light and colour refracted through diamonds in larger than life paintings, creating realistic illusions on a grand scale that turn abstract on closer inspection. Mel cannot resist the idea of a diamond-esque penguin, with facets of tone mixed with reflective mirror texture, to create the appearance of a solid jewel bird. She says, “I see this as being both a stunning visual illusion and play on words – ‘ice’ being the Antarctic habitat of the penguin and slang for blingy diamonds”.
There were some Wadlles (Little Penguins) in the Museum but sadly they had run away... they were packed as the it was the last day of the Penguin Trail.
The mural you can see (Top Middle) the with the Penguin is amazing. It looks 3D. I had a good afternoon with my friends. It was to catch up with them all.
