Tommies

The verge opposite my house is covered with these early Crocus Tommasinianus often called Tommies. They cheer me up every February and were named after the botanist Muzio Spirito de Tommasini who was mayor of Trieste. Happily they have crossed the road and I now have several clumps in my garden. They look their best in the sun but unfortunately it is in short supply at the moment.
