Candlemas Day

My latest acquisition is Weather Forecasting: The Country Way by Robin Page, mainly for the illustrations by Thomas Bewick.

For today, Candlemas, it quotes the rhyme:
If Candlemas be fair and bright,
Winter'll have another flight.
But if Candlemas Day be clouds and rain,
Winter is gone and will not come again.

Unfortunately it does not have a quote for the snow we had today, which, the scientific forecasters tell us, will continue through the week.

So sad to learn that Captain Sir Tom Moore died today, having contracted Covid -19 after treatment for pneumonia. We shall remember him with fondness and admiration and his mantra "tomorrow will be a good day".
