Changing society - Discuss.

Here we see two machines which are positioned about 25 metres apart.

Used to issue parking tickets, they show, in my humble opinion, many facets of our changing society.

On the left we have the old version.
It takes coins (how quaint) but not a credit/debit card.
Naturally you can use it by phone or an app.
Please note the very tough, horizontal, steel bar near the lower end. This is to stop would be thieves stealing the coins by drilling out the lock and helping themselves. I actually saw workmen fitting bars to the row of machines. You can see scratches just about the bar as further attempts have been made to gain entry.

The right hand machine does not accept coins but will take card payment either by insertion in the slot or contactless.  You can also pay by phone/app.

Points to ponder.
The cashless society is upon us.
Thieves are among us.
Parking is expensive.

The one encouraging anchor in our lives is that both machines are usually out of order, leaving the poor motorist with a dilemma.
