Candlemas
I was sorry to miss posting for Candlemas yesterday while we were in London. So I'm posting today instead :-)
The small painting is by the wonderfully named Michelangelo Attardo Perinetti (here is his website). He copies tiny sections of medieval Italian altarpieces, here a Madonna by Simone Martini from about 1320. We bought it in his workshop in the backstreets of Siena in 2015. It is painted in the traditional manner with egg tempera paint and gold leaf.
After I finished working (for money), I did an art history degree and specialised in medieval Sienese art and particularly the paintings of Simone Martini. So this little panel is very special for me.
