Birthday blues

Today is the eldest nineteenth birthday. And first one away, staying with my sister. So it was weird not being together.
She had a day wandering around Reykjavík, while my sister was at work. She did call us from the lake in the centre of the city, which is iced over, and has a live webcam. She was able to walk on to the lake and wave to us whilst on the phone, and we could see her on the webcam! It felt a bit surreal.
Then we zoomed in the evening with cake. This was our one, a modest almond number. They'd gone all out with a Swedish princess cake, which is a monster of a cake including jam, custard and cream as well as marsipan cover.
It was great to see her, and thank goodness for technology.
