The Mask

The 'Mask'/ Face of Nijmegen.. This mask was found in the river Waal close to Nijmegen and dates back from the second half of the 1st century. It is made of iron and silver-plated brass, partly gilded. The helmet may have ended up in the river during the rebellion of the Batavians (70 AD) or shortly afterwards.
