Doodle #12 (Thursday 4th February 2021)

The weather is at its default setting of dismal and wet, so although I have an hour of exercise planned for this afternoon, incorporating a grocery stock-up, I decided to continue my doodle series, seeing as it is Abstract Thursday. The doodle was made on 28 January 1968 at Sutton Coldfield School Of Art. Many thanks to Ingeborg for hosting.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
The Who - Armenia City In The Sky (recorded 20 October 1967, IBC Studios, London)
The Who Sell Out was released in December 1967 and opened with this song, written not by Pete Townshend but by his friend and label mate Speedy Keene from the band Thunderclap Newman, and he can be heard singing the harmonies with Townshend.
I had been playing the album repeatedly for about a month when I drew the above doodle.
In 2005 an accapella version of the whole album was made by Petra Haden, including Armenia City In The Sky. Petra Haden and her triplet sisters are the daughters of jazz bassist Charlie Haden. She is also the sister of Josh Haden, bassist, singer and leader of the group Spain. When sent a copy, Pete Townshend remarked, "What Petra does with her voice, which is not so easy to do, is challenge the entire rock framework ... When she does depart from the original music she does it purely to bring a little piece of herself -- and when she appears she is so very welcome. I felt like I'd received something better than a Grammy." The actor Nick Offerman (Parks And Recreation) said in his book Paddle Your Own Canoe,  that it was the ideal album to listen to whilst building one's own canoe.
