Chaenomeles japonica

It's such a grey and brown day today that despite taking the camera out for a muddy walk I had to blip a cheering splash of colour. This Japanese quince grows in front of my house and has lots of buds coming, it's such a welcome sight in February. So, rain, you can get lost right now! 

The extra is a just-opened berberis, not sure of the variety but I love the colour.
