Sassafras!

Mrs B has to favour her back so I was recruited for the heavy work: putting the "Sassafras" (cloche dutch oven) into the oven to heat, taking it out to insert the raw loaf, returning it to the oven and then timing it.  So I had a significant part to play in this loaf (background), which looks delicious, as always.

Another very useful tool is the thermometer, next to the loaf in the photo.  Mrs B knows that a loaf is done if the centre has reached 95ºC.  I bought the thermometer when I tried my hand at bread-making a couple of years ago.  I failed, twice, so we decided that I was just wasting flour as well as time . . .
