Pining For You

The word "pineapple" in English was first recorded in 1398, when it was originally used to describe the reproductive organs of conifer trees.

When European explorers discovered this tropical fruit in the Americas in 1664, they called them "pineapples". (This kinda stuck. Thanks, Europeans!)

The term "pine cone" for the reproductive organ of conifer trees was first recorded in 1694. (No idea who did this but my money is on the European settlers.)

Pineapples are especially rich in Vitamin C and Manganese.

In the scientific binomial Ananas comosus, ananas, the original name of the fruit, comes from the Tupi word nanas, meaning "excellent fruit".

I couldn't agree more. It's my favorite fruit and I probably eat six or more cups of fresh pineapple chunks a week. It's just plain yummy!!!!
