Mud, mud . . .
We've been avoiding the fields lately because of the state of the ground but decided to tramp across them and along the canal today, just to remind ourselves what they look like. It seems that plenty of folk have still been using the footpaths. As the paths muddied up, as usually happens, people widened them preferring to walk on the untrodden drier ground. Not too disastrous over pasture but I was disappointed to see that this practice had been followed over early crops. We slithered along the original paths where there were crops "tut tutting" as we went!
There was almost as much mud in the canal (see extra) as along the footpath. We've seen an awful lot of topsoil pass through the town carried by the Welland on it's way to The Wash this winter. There's still some left though!
