Farewell to Amadeus
Tonight, my chorus, Allegra Women's Choir had its final rehearsal at The Amadeus Project. We were able to snap a few photos before we began singing, and before the last bits of light faded away. Owner Tofer Wade explained to us that their lease was abruptly terminated because the landlord wished to use the space for another venture. A venture which still seems to be a mystery to all of us. Tomorrow, is their last day here.
I have many fond memories of this wonderful space. A lot of my vocal "coming of age" occurred within the warmth and safety of these walls! Over the years, I slowly gained better control over the sounds coming out of my mouth, slowly worked up the courage to sing alone while others watched and listened (that was painful), gained more confidence as I grew to understand how to harness my voice as a musical instrument.
Tonight, as we rehearsed, local artist Ron Pattern, whose gorgeous paintings were adorning the walls of Amadeus for the month of February, was busy taking down his work, and getting the pieces packaged to be moved out.
During our break we raised our paper cups and offered an apple juice toast to Amadeus, its proprietors, Tofer and Andrea, and all the artists who have come and gone over the years, filling this beautiful room with music. Adieu, Amadeus!
