Why women? Curves are simply nicer clay than muscular torsos and let's be honest: the focus of the trip on the skate always goes to the winner (man) and not the winner (woman). Ladies are hereby placed on a pedestal. The Aukjes (named after artist's great neighbor) all have roughly the same build, but their own appearance.

Statues of 'Aukje de reedrydster' (Aukje the skater) on a high corten steel pedestal can be found in all eleven cities in Friesland, and one in Kolderwolde. All statues are on the Elfstedentocht route where the road crosses the water.
