Cane Fields

The slopes surrounding Volcán Fuego are blanketed with fields of sugar cane. As the wind blows over them the shades of green continually change.
Some of the canes had large plumed flowers that the cane workers remove and save for feeding to constipated cows!
When the cane (a plant in the grass family) is ready to be harvested, the fields are burned to get rid of the leaves, and the stalks are hand cut and hauled to a nearby sugar processing plant. You can only imagine what a hard and dirty job that is.
This is in the state of Colima, Mexico
