Encased in ice
Saturday
Our daily exercise took us to Rowe Woods today. I had read on Facebook, that the trails were rather icy, so we took our nano spikes, and we were glad we had. It depended which side of the valleys you were on - if you were facing south, then the trails were relatively clear, or at least partially clear, but on the north facing slopes, the trails were very icy, but our spikes did their job, and we got back safely. We saw several people who weren’t prepared and ended up turning back and finding other trails. I took several landscape shots, but finally opted for this photograph of a leaf encased in the ice.
At home, I spent quite a bit of time reading our book for Book Club ( by Zoom) on Monday evening. The book is A house without windows, by Nadia Hashimi, “a vivid spellbinding story of murder, survival sisterhood and a mother’s love that illuminates the plight of women in a traditional Afghan culture”. Nadia Hashimi was born in New York to Afghan parents. She is a mother of four, a practicing pediatrician, the author of three best-selling adult books as well as two children’s books, and stood for Congress, though was defeated. A high achiever!
