Mary Queen of Scots

Today's Blip is a collage I have created in honour of Mary Queen of Scots who was beheaded on this day in 1587 at Fotheringhay Castle after 19-years of imprisonment - she was aged 44.

The collage combines two shots that I have taken recently :
1) a cast of the tomb of Mary, Queen of Scots displayed in the National Museum of Scotland. The actual tomb is in Westminster Abbey in London. It was made by Cornelius Cure between 1606 and 1612. The tomb has a representation of the dead queen on top of the sarcophagus, her hands together in prayer, and

2) the statue of the Queen standing in the grounds of her birthplace, Linlithgow Palace. Unusually it is the first statue of Mary in Scotland and it was created by sculptor David Annand and erected in 2015.
