The Cross, Street

The Cross, at the bottom of what is now the High Street, used to be the centre of the village before the 19th century expansion caused by the growth of the Clark’s’ shoe business. I believe that this little memorial garden gifted, as the dedication reads if you go large, to the inhabitants of Street in 1893 is the where the village water source was located.

Anyway, we passed it on our walk to B&Q in Glastonbury in a bitingly cold wind to look for kitchen paint, and I haven’t blipped all of it before so here you have it.

We spent the morning painting more woodwork in the dining room while the carpenter fitted new skirting boards in the study / Sophie’s room.
