Magi

One Street - High Street, Crieff #2

I was on my way to the Bank this morning in the High Street when I noticed this gentleman leaving the cash dispenser. By the time I got the camera out of my pocket and ready for action he had passed me by, kilt swinging jauntily, but I did get a good back view so thought I would blip it as part of my One Street Project. His name is Magi (pronounced Maggie) and he is apparently an itinerant, possibly in his mid fifties, who used to live up the glen in a one roomed bothy, known as a 'bender' - he may in fact still live there. His mode of dress is a nod to the old traditional wear of the highlander, complete with plaid wrapped around his waist, and he looks as if he has just stepped out of the film "Braveheart". The round instrument on his back is known as a tambour, which is a very simple percussion instrument, played with a short round ended stick which the musician skilfully manipulates to produce a repetitive rhythm which is most attractive to listen to especially when heard as part of a traditional Ceilidh band. I have seen Magi before, looking exactly the same, but this is the first time I had my camera ready - well almost.

The remainder of the day was spent getting my hair cut, taking the dogs for a superb walk in the cool sunshine and then replenishing my store cupboard from an overdue visit to the supermarket. I did have a bit of spare time after the shopping and enjoyed myself sorting out my wormery and moving it back outside from its winter quarters in the greenhouse. The worms had produced a lot of organic worm juice since I last checked and having diluted it I was able to water around the young strawberry plants and blueberry bush in the greenhouse. It felt good to be busy out in the garden again.
