What Happened in 1926?

Martial Law was declared in the UK due to the General Strike, called in support of the coal miners, the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre in Stratford Upon Avon is destroyed by fire, the first greyhound racing track opens in Manchester, and the first British Grand Prix is held at the Brooklands Circuit.
More importantly to me is that my dad was born in 1926...and this morning, after a long and full life, he passed away.
Although sad, his time had come.
