A northern Cape sunset

After a fairly uneventful start to the journey, the closer we got to Vryburg we hit floods and flood damaged roads. Some of the potholes looked big enough to swallow us up. To be fair the roads people were out doing their best but with huge lorries in endless streams they were putting their lives at risk.

So, tonight we are in the central Kalahari, in the town of Kathu, which means the town under the trees, as a result of the huge number of camel thorn trees.

Being a town focused on the mines around it, it’s definitely a place for only a one night stop over. Thankfully our hotel is a little quieter than the Inn in Kuruman, I&S will remember that well.

I think we are going to be in for a shock tomorrow as the mercury is forecast to rise to 37. I think we need to pick up some beers and lots of ice for tomorrow’s stopover.
