Sparring

A few of us were invited to have lunch with a colleague in Khan Younis, a town and refugee camp about 40 minutes' drive from Gaza City.

Our colleague's seven-year-old son, Mohammed, is a very beautiful, very serious young man. He speaks little, but his eyes tell a story of deep suffering. During the last war on Gaza in November, his older sister, Maissa, wrote a short piece for the Mercy Corps website about how he was affected by the ongoing attacks. He looked older than the last time I had seen him.

One of my friends who was visiting Gaza for work brought Mohammed a gift of a boxing punch bag and gloves. Once assembled, it was a big hit!
