Losing Light

No sooner had I framed my shot, than the shadow began to move in on my scene. I was surprised by the speed at which my subject was disappearing and had to complete my adjustments rapidly before pressing the shutter.

The tips of these branches buried in deep snow epitomise the conditions. I liked the arrangement, the pattern made by the subject and its shadows and the description of light: bright, low-angled, afternoon winter sunshine. Still desperately cold.

The snow produces a satisfying crunch with each footstep.
