Snow over Shapinsay
A walk up Wideford Hill just outside of Kirkwall. The snow was easy enough to walk on on the track, but quite hard going when I went off onto the heathery moor. Masses of tracks left by hares but I saw nary a one. Like yesterday, I saw two raven coming and going from a traditional nest-site, this one in a quarry. Other birds included a flock of 100+ twite, stonechats, robin, wren, dunnock, snipe, a woodcock and a coal tit, the last of which is pretty uncommon here. The photo is from the top of the hill looking northeast. The extra is of a snowboarder making the long trek upward.
