Village Castle

Had a lovely, but very cold walk around Ewell Village. I'd heard about Ewell Castle but had never seen it. It was built in 1814 and designed by Henry Kitchen who lived in the same street. The artist John Everett Millais was a visitor to the Castle and maintained his connection with Ewell where he found the background for his painting Ophelia.
In 1926 the Ewell Castle Independent School was established at The Castle and remains there to this day. It has a variety of notable alumni.
