Dear Deer
Since the weekend, the family of deer we have every year are back at the house for the spring. Naturally not the same animals but we were able, for a number of years, to see a deer with a badly ripped & bent ear keep coming back with her latest offspring.
"Knickohr" became well known to the two local hunters who Angie had told to leave alone under threat of her wrath.
As such deer and having them around is nothing special until your know that until 15th January they had been hunted big time in the months up to Christmas & New Year. It's as if the deer have an App telling them when all is safe!
I always thought that in late winter, early spring they were at the back door of the house on a strip free of trees for the grass that comes there early. I bliped two weeks ago that I had bumped into our friend, hunter & forester Johannes, and he had told me then that the deer live off bramble leaves at this time of year. And indeed it has been possible to observe this well last few days.
Not sure if I will be able to identify this deer again, but she had a lovely expression.
