Quiet wonders

Sorry to keep banging on about the intricate wonders of Nature, but here's yet another rabbit out of the hat in one of the most prolific plants on the face of the planet: the ever-so-'umble palm.
Not sure how many varieties and families and sub-species there are in total, but I'm guessing somewhere in the thousands. And the fronds, and the 'leaves' on the fronds, might well have a lot of similarities amongst them, but I'd guess they have at least as many discernible differences - if not, many more.
It's no easy thing to come up with so many distinctive variations on the same general theme of long green leaves on a frond, but palms seem to manage it effortlessly.
The distinctive features of this one lie in the subtle straight lines along the length of the leaf. No other palm has quite the same set of widths, colourings and spacings of these lines.
But if you stand a single sample of every known variety next to each other in one giant palm corral, so many of the fronds and their leaves appear, on first inspection, to be pretty much identical to each other. The only obvious differences lie in whether they are longer or shorter, or bigger or smaller, or lighter or darker.
Dig down a bit further into the botanical rabbit-hole that is the palm, and you'll find a dizzying array of peculiar variations and mysterious permutations. On closer, more detailed inspection, the humble palm becomes curioser and curioser.
