New furnace installed

On Thursday our 35-year-old gas furnace (its estimated age: it was here when we moved in) finally gave up the ghost. By Friday, its brand-new replacement had been installed. Yes, yes, I took these pictures yesterday — but after my Friday blip had already gone up, so I had to save them for today. (I am operating under the same less-than-48-hours rule that governs Covid-negative tests.)

The main picture shows the installer at work; it took him about four hours to do the whole job. Extra #1 is the husk of our old furnace, standing in the front yard until he hauled it away. And extra #2 shows the finished installation with the installer pointing proudly at the new furnace. Something about the bare-bulb lighting in the basement has caused his face to morph into the kind of pixillated ectoplasm that appeared in “spirit” photos of the nineteenth century. At first I thought this was a photographic flaw, but now I’ve decided it’s what makes the picture.
