Carrickfergus Castle

Today's blip is the Carrickfergus Castle from the Wilding Castle Defininitive series, first issued in 1955 - well before I was born...! It has a face value of 2 shillings and 6 old pence and can be bought today for a few quid today.

Odd sort of day here in Brittany, bitterly cold... We walked to the shopping centre as usual, but only the supermarket was open, all the non-food shops were closed.

After lunch we went to the library, to drop my Asterix BDs off and pick up some new ones, plus a couple of CDs and a couple of DVDs.

After dinner we watched one of the DVDs, which as an almost plausible comedy of a man who looks like another man and gives up his life to go and liee with another family, only to discover the man he looks like was a successful bank robber who vanished 24 years ago...

I usually rip the DVDs and then use external subtitles as the font is better when I play it that way. Whoever did the subtitle rip had fun, as all the letter "l"s had become capital "I"s... I didn't realise until recently that on a DVD the subtitles aren't text that is overlaid onto the video at play time, but are actually a separate video streams, so to read the subtitles on a DVD you need to do optical character recognition on them... Very annoying... Modern TV downloads on catch up use a text file for the subtitles, so you can choose any font you want, and it's also very easy to translate them - as I often to from French to English
