1930s Valentine Perfume?
This is an attempt to blip a photo with a Valentine’s Day link!
Grossmith of London's history dates back 180 years and this particular bottle with its blatant use of Imperial imagery on the label is from the 1930s or possibly earlier. ‘Phul-Nana’ is, apparently, Hindi for 'lovely flower'.
According to the company’s website, Grossmith was re-launched in 2006 although it does not say how long they had been out of business. They claim that this fragrance is: A fresh, sweet Floral composition with aromatic Fougère overtones on a soft, warm, woody base.
Originally created in 1891, this scent is a rare marriage of the herb garden with the flower garden, unusual in a feminine fragrance. It paved the way for the ‘oriental’ fragrances that were to follow.
It looks rather expensive but I am no expert and certainly not a ‘brand ambassador’ or whatever they call those folk who spend all their time on Instagram!
In other news, Mary and I are looking forward (?) to getting our Covid vaccinations first thing tomorrow.
