Tree bark
A couple of years ago in February I went on a tree recognition course. At this time of the year you recognise trees by where they are growing, what sort of soil, their general size and shape, their leaf buds, and of course by their bark. 8 photos taken within 50m of where I am sitting. I could have added Holly and Yew, but they are a bit impenetrable. Clockwise from top left: Cherry, Silver Birch, Ash, Beech, Scots Pine, Larch, and two Oaks (either different sorts or the right hand one older than the left hand one). I will have to look more closely later in the year when of course you can also use leaves, flowers, fruit and nuts. I love typologies!
