Pancake Tuesday
Well what else would one blip today?
This is a traditional feast day before the start of Lent, 47 days before Easter Sunday. It can be traced back to Anglo Saxon times and indeed recipes for pancakes have been found in a cookbook dated 1439.
Many towns and villages have pancake races in which the participants toss the pancakes from their frying pans as they run along.
These are thin English pancakes. American pancakes, as made on Christmas morning by my daughter in law, are thicker but just as delicious.
The lemon juice or maple syrup are also traditional here.
Yesterdays black and yellow pipes were for a new gas main along Arnside Promenade which is closed to traffic for twelve days.
Congratulations to the two blippers who got the gas connection.
