Ugaritic tablet #2
This afternoon I've been hand printing a few copies of my "Ugaritic tablet" design. I liked this graded roll of burnt sienna and yellow ochre best, it seems to suit the idea of a clay tablet (and happens to be my go to colour combination). I first came across Ugaritic tablets forty years ago as a postgraduate student in Syria. Looking for somewhere to cool off in the summer heat I wandered into the National Museum of Damascus and spent several hours exploring the dark, dusty and deserted exhibition halls crammed with Sumerian and Akkadian artefacts offset by the occasional bit of downed Israeli aircraft.
