Lumber Mill and Log Pond complete
Yep - finally finished the lumber mill and adjacent log pond. Whew. The blip is of the sorting shed where the freshly cut lumber is stacked on the tram for movement to the drying stacks. All the wood stack parts and tram are from N Architect in his "completing the scene" stuff. Glad I bought them. I painted the figures from an unpainted collection from Preiser. They were railroad workers but with a hard hat and life preserver they became log people.
The extras today are of the final log pond. It now has workers with Pike Poles to move the logs around. You may need to enlarge the photo to see them. Seems like a dangerous business. I had the red boat in my scrap box so it fit there as well. There is now an A frame for unloading log trucks. Have not strung the cables from the dozer to the A frame - have to wait for the log truck to be finished.
I thought a close up of the lumber mill sign would be fun. I dropped a log car on the floor a while ago and it broke. Could not get it all back together. So the detachable log trucks got rusted and found a home here.
Finally the other awful blip is of the parts I have started with to build a log truck. I washed them off to get rid of the mold release and so that the ACC glue will actually glue. I think they are cast from pewter. Hopefully not lead. I plan on building the whole thing, then spray paint it. A neat kit from GHQ. Several VERY tiny parts - like rear view mirrors and flip up turn signals. Nope - tried to mount them and one flew off somewhere and the other one disappeared. Did find it well glued to my nitrate gloves. So - no rear view mirrors, no turn signals. I doubt log truck drivers ever use them anyway.
Once the log truck is finished I can finally get to building the aspen trees for the foreground of the scene. I am planning on doing them n the early fall - mostly green with tinges of yellow. We will see how that goes.
