The Mardi Gras Ice Storm
Originally, they talked about our latest weather event as a mix of snow and ice. However, in the end, we got very little snow and mostly ice. We awoke to a slick world covered in shiny, glittering crystals.
I made my way carefully down the front steps, which are treacherous as all get-out, and out into the yard, where I took a bunch of photos. Above is one of the views of leaves on a tree in our front yard, covered in ice.
Temperatures warmed up through the morning, and the ice fell, the sound of it like broken glass, all around the house and against it. The winds picked up, the trees moved, and ice fell from the sky, clattering and shattering on impact. It was wild and a little scary, but the power stayed on!
In completely unrelated news, I decided the winter weather called for a nice lasagna, so I made one for lunch: layers and layers of cheese and sauce and those nice Barilla lasagna noodles you don't even pre-cook, you just slap them in and bake them! It was hefty and huge, and you may see a photo of a slice of it in the extras. Warning: you might need a fork-lift to lift it!
I was thinking about life in general, and what things we do to make and keep ourselves happy (for happiness, like all other things, is INTENTIONAL, and not an accidental thing). For my money, it is little things like this: the beauty of frozen ice crystals (especially when the power stays ON), and a nice, hefty lasagna. This is the good stuff. *nod-nod*
The soundtrack song is Kenny Chesney, with The Good Stuff.
