tunnel
It was time for a supermarket shop (10 days since the last one) so I headed into town. Wednesday seems a reasonably quiet day to shop and I was in and out as quickly as possible.
Before driving home again, I took the opportunity to go for a walk along the river. The Nith has become a popular place recently, with people hoping to catch a glimpse of the resident otter family. For a quieter walk, I opted to go against the flow, and headed upstream from the town. I followed the path to where the Cluden joins the Nith at Lincluden Abbey, crossing underneath the A75 twice, and then under the railway by this pedestrian tunnel, which is part of the Martinton Bridge , built in 1849. I then crossed the golf course to reach the Edinburgh Road and back to where I had left the car - 4.5 miles in all.
I've marked out a rough route (in black) on a map in 1st extra "X" marks the site of the tunnel. 2nd extra shows some friends I met on the way :-)
