The pigeon man / Der Taubenmann

Frustratingly, I can’t find out anything much about this rather splendid sculpture. All I know is that it is tucked away in a smart housing development near my son’s Kindergarten, and was completed by local artist Heinrich Zenichowski in 2009.

I’ve spotted a similar-looking figure by the swing bridge, which I guess maybe by the same sculptor, near his studio in Wiek.

I really like it: the man looks smart but serene, and today the last of the snow complemented his hat as well as his pigeons. I also just love the pure pleasure of stumbling across an interesting and unusual artwork in such an everyday location.
