Project 365 day 49: an unexpected iris

This afternoon, some thin, wintery sun crept through a window, and I rushed outside with my camera - I think it's only a week since the last sighting, but it feels longer. As I stepped outside the back door, I found this perfect miniature iris in what I thought was an abandoned pot of weeds. I planted a pack of them in various tubs a few years ago, but they didn't thrive beyond the first year, so it was an unexpected joy to discover this one in such beautiful condition after all the rain, wind, snow and ice of recent weeks.
