Wow!
Between 1874 and 1877 Middlesex built the third county lunatic asylum at Banstead. This finally closed in 1986 and in 1993 The Reverend Prebendary Chad Varah, the founder of the Samaritans amongst many other things, unveiled a plaque to formally open a prison on the site.
Amongst other things the prison has a fine dining restaurant, The Clink, which is where I had lunch today. Each year students working in the art classes offered on site display poems, short stories and art work in Sutton Central Library where the public are invited to vote for the best contributions in a range of categories. The best work is also published in a book with any profits going to victim support. This is my copy if the book and I've enjoyed a wonderful evening reading it.
And I'm also famous in the local press!
Busy old Friday but the weekend is under way so please keep your hands inside the car for the duration of the ride and scream if you want to go faster.
