Townie Blackthorn
I walk past this blackthorn almost every day during the week on my way home from work - but interestingly not on my way to work. About a week ago I noticed that it had started to flower but wasn't in full bloom. It is now is bursting with life - it's even started to open a few leaf buds too! Even though blackthorn is one of the first plums to flower this one is particularly early as it's situated with a power-substation to it's north side giving it shelter and heat and it's exposed to the sun on the south side. Being in the town centre it also benefits from the urban heat island. Anyhow it makes a change from macro shots in the house because I couldn't find anything else to blip!
I wouldn't say that spring is here yet in the UK but it's looking less like winter every day.
