I had my old hand-cranked Singer out to hem some curtains. It’s a hundred years old, and it shows - the tension spring is broken, the bobbin winder is worn, and it shows evidence of being dropped on its end at some point in its long campaign. But I only do basic sewing anyway, and I’m far too sentimental to part with it.
