Hazy Evening

As Liffey and I took our evening stroal I couldn't help but notice the sweet, smoky haze that covered everything in sight.  When I asked one of the locals about it I was told that "they are burning the cane".
Once sugar cane has been cut and crushed the empty stalks are piled in the field and burned.  The waste is cheeply disposed of and the minerals from the cane are returned to the soil.
