What makes for happiness?
Out walking this afternoon I had conversations with eight people. Most were friends I had not seen much of since lockdown and one couple had a pair of Dalmatian dogs so that was an obvious conversation starter.
The reason I mention all this is that I happened to be listening to a TED talk ( Technology, Entertainment and Design) on my phone on What makes for happiness?
The speaker was Robert Waldinger, the third director of a Harvard university project, started 75 years ago which looked at happiness.
Many had said in their initial interviews, in there early 20’s, that they wanted to be rich followed by famous. When interviewed again in their 80 s - those that were still alive they said that it was the quality of their relationships that brought them happiness in their lives and this was reflected in their health too.
So Boris’ road map to be unveiled tomorrow on how we get out of lockdown will be welcomed by everyone. Relationships are vital for both our mental and physical health.
