I'm taken aback. I was so certain that yesterday's brooch belonged to the family who lived in this house for 60 years before I moved in that I thought I'd be handing it over this week. But I got in touch through a neighbour and have heard back that it is not theirs. 

They tell me that the garden once belonged to a church that used to be further down the street. I had no idea there was a church here and I shall find out more but the existing garden has belonged to the house since it was built in 1867 and I honestly don't believe the brooch is 19th century. But it seems as if it might be pre-1960... I must conjure some time and find out more.
