Watery Lane
Of course, the picture doesn’t do it justice.
Today’s walk was an epic six and a half mile walk around interesting local history points. It’s been raining this week and the lower ground here is flooded. I assume - but have no evidence for - the name of the lane comes from the tendency of this bit of road to flood. It’s the bit of lane just off the Recreation Ground and water must flow off the land and come to a stop right here. It’s not a large flood but is enough to make you stop and wonder how to cross it. I decided to look up the house prices around here just to see if ‘prone-to-flooding’ has any impact compared to other streets. Most of the houses are raised up so I suspect there is not any greater chance of them flooding than anywhere else around here. I’m not enough of a statistician to know if the prices really vary - it’s not obvious - but I did come across this line on one of the property websites.
Overall, sold prices in Watery Lane over the last year were 34% down on the previous year and 44% down on the 2014 peak of £950,000.
