Roxanne
My fiancé has started caring for house plants as a new hobby during the pandemic, and she asked me to photograph some of them. For this one, a Chinese evergreen she has named 'Roxanne,' I decided to bring out the pink in the edges of the leaves by using a pink backlight from one side with a daylight colored flash from the opposite side to the front. A happy accident while I was trying things out was realizing that the shadow of the more powerful bare flash turned the color of the backlight, creating a powerful, sharp pink shadow. With the gradient of softer pink across the backdrop (white seamless paper), I felt like I got some nice drama out of this one.
