A funny great blue heron!

This morning, a great blue heron was standing on the roof of our neighbors boat, not too unusual. The roof of the house is in the background, the boat is parked at his dock, in a lift. When I first saw this heron, I could not figure out why he was in such an odd shape - see the extra photo for the full bird! 

I think maybe his wings got wet while fishing and he was drying them out?? I've seen cormorants and anhingas do this. Perhaps he was sunning himself? He stood like this with his wings 1/2 way out for quite a while! Your ideas are welcome ;o))
