The Great Ginger Hunter
A rainy day, spent indoors. Snapped a few quick shots of birds, but nothing that felt special. Then I looked at Charlie who was intently looking out the window, tail twitching...dreaming of hunting. The snap of an iPhone and blip in the bag.
I learned something interesting about domestic cats this week. Just like wild cats, they have to be taught to hunt. Wild cats are, of course, taught by their parents. But it is we humans who teach domestic kittens to hunt by playing with them. Phoebe, our calico cat, spent her kittenhood in a shelter and didn’t get a lot of “hunting instruction” which exp, ain’t why she isn’t interest in the feather wand or the toy mouse games that Charlie loves so much. Wherever Charlie spent his kittenhood (we adopted him as an adult) someone played with him. So while both cats watch birds on the windowsill intently, with tails twitching, it is only Charlie who hurls himself at the window with boundless optimism.
And that is my bit of useless wisdom for today.
Thanks for the feedback on my impressionistic image yesterday. It is such fun to try new things and I am always so inspired by all the creativity in this wonderful blip community.
Stay safe, be kind. I’m going to go forage for some dark chocolate now...
