Sally Mair - Loving life

Daffs in waiting

St David's day today, a quick rendition of Cwm Rhondda but no dancing on tables or even Welsh cakes here - although I do have some leeks in the fridge. I thought I'd find some photogenic daffodils but the carpet in Ravelston Woods isn't quite ready to provide me with the hoped for blip, so here are some 'almost' daffodils! Sorry mum!
Today was a good day, I had my usual leisurely start then decided to go for a walk, I set off for the post office but took a diversion via the woods. Lots of birds song, some very active squirrels - whose thoughts were presumably on spring like activity, a woodpecker pecking somewhere in the distance but everything kept well away from my camera!
I walked 1.5 miles which I was pleased about and enjoyed having the peace and fresh air. After lunch I decided to attack a bit of the garden. Kneeling isn't comfortable yet so I did some standing tasks - thinned out the raspberry canes, pruned a couple of roses which had somehow escaped my previous attacks and did some clearing of deadwood from some perennials. I only spent an hour or so but it did feel good afterwards. I need to attack some of my pots soon. On another note my seed potatoes arrived so it will soon be time to start chitting them. I am trying a new heritage purple skinned variety this year, Yetholm Gypsy alongside some old favourites Maris Peer and Red King Edwards.

Keep safe and well everybody and don't eat your St David's day daffodils by accident!
